"Insurance Crimes Against Patients" Protest

On Tuesday October 6th, Healthcare for America Now (HCAN), the nation's largest health care campaign protested United Healthcare's putting Wall Street-driven profits before people's health care needs. For years, American insurance companies have been more about corporate greed than patient need. Insurance executives have lined their pockets at record rates while our health insurance premiums went up three times faster than wages and four times faster than general inflation.

  • It's a crime that 64% of all bankruptcies are caused by medical debt.
  • It's a crime that every 12 minutes someone dies because they can't afford the escalating cost of health insurance.

Arpaio Deputies Stomp on First Amendment Again!
During Arpaio's racial profiling sweep last weekend, another of his deputies grabbed the camera of activist and radio host Carlos Galindo and erased his footage.  Fortunately, Galindo had the techie know-how to be able to recover the footage.  Sheriff Joe knows that the documentation of his actions by our volunteer activists has been getting him into to trouble.  He is determined to keep on engaging in unconstitutional actions without being inconvenienced by the First Amendment, or any other constitutionally guaranteed rights.

Please contact your members of congress, Secretary Napolitano, the Department of Justice and President Obama. Tell them:
  • We need their help to stop Arpaio's efforts to make Maricopa County a "Constitution Free Zone."
  • He cannot continue to go unchecked.
  • Revoke his 287(g) authority

Phone Bank for a Strong Public Option
Congress is in recess. Our members are back in Arizona. NOW is the time for them to hear from us about health care reform. The insurance industry is spending a fortune on fake grassroots (astro-turf) protests to protect their profits by shutting down debate. We need to fight back and make sure that our representatives know we support HR 3200 with a STRONG PUBLIC OPTION because it makes health care more affordable for everyone and supports the choice of a public option or private insurance. Join us as we call your friends and neighbors asking them to reach our to their member of Congress in support of a strong public option as part of health insurance reform.

Rush-Hour Overpass Action
With each passing week the stakes get higher as the Insurance-Industrial-Complex throws more of your health insurance premium dollars toward derailing health insurance reform.  So we're upping the ante, too.  The People may not have the money the Insurance Industry has, but we are determined to get our message out using all avenues, including freeways.  We need dozens of volunteers for a three-day action during morning rush hour on Wednesday through Friday August 12th to 14th.  Please join us!

Tell Congress to Support Health Care Reform NOW!
National Call-in Day Tuesday July 28

The health insurance industry and their fellow profiteers are swamping congressional switchboards with calls opposing any reform.  The stakes are so high and the pressure so great that we must reach all Members of Congress.

We are urging Representatives to vote for HR 3200 because it will provide comprehensive benefits we can count on at an affordable cost, with the choice of a public plan or private insurance. The bill is paid for responsibly, partly by an income tax surcharge limited to the wealthiest 1.2 percent in America, and by savings within the health care system. Millions of the uninsured would be able to get care. Small businesses, now paying more per worker than large firms for health insurance, would have access to good care at lower cost. Insurance companies would not be able to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. Please join us by calling on your Representative to support HR 3200; don't be drowned out by powerful interests.
